15 October, 2025Heroslam is working on the Harigain R&D project to develop advanced coatings designed to improve the performance and extend the service life of its thread-rolling tools. The initiative is being carried out in cooperation with the Tekniker technology centre.
The project involves an investment of approximately €700,000 over two and a half years and has received €500,000 in support from the CDTI. The developments mainly target high-speed steel tools used to form high-hardness materials.
The company plans to renew equipment in its heat-treatment and coating sections to incorporate the project results. The main target applications are in the automotive and aerospace sectors, where lighter and stronger fasteners and increasingly demanding rolling processes require tools with higher mechanical performance.
Heroslam is also researching powder-metallurgy materials applied through additive manufacturing. Initial developments have been incorporated into hybrid tools that are being assessed under real production conditions.
In the environmental field, the company has measured its carbon footprint and installed solar panels at its Abanto-Zierbena plant. The installation provides self-generated power equivalent to around 15% of total consumption.
